Thanks for the updates…I still think CMT is better than Zeels…

Hi, JKCDXX, are you the same JKCDXX from PTCGO??

      1. JKCDXX

Yes, since I can’t play in real life, I play exclusively online…

Yeah, it didn’t win a single regionals, but you’re right, it’s surely better than ZekEels. lol

      1. Adam Keibler

The only reason it didn’t win at all is because apparently the vast majority of people who play it don’t know how to make the Zeel matchup favorable.

I agree, players have to think outside the box and figure out what can counter your deck’s weaknesses while at the same time, have good synergy with your deck. I would also like to congatulate you on your 3rd place finish Adam. Im sure you played very well with a very good list.

It’s ridiculous to think that you are the best CMT players/deckbuilders out there. There were other very good players out there too and the proof is in the fact that they won quite a few States. Even then though, they didn’t win as many as Zeels did and now it didn’t win a single Regional. Now, I DO think that CMT is a GREAT deck and it has a pretty even matchup against zeels, maybe even positive depending on the builds and players. However, to say that CMT is better than Zeels, or that it “wrecks” Zeels, is as dumb a statement as saying that CMT is the worst deck in the format. Also, you claim that the only reason CMT didn’t win is because they didn’t adjust to make Zeels a favorable matchup. The fact that it needs to do that portrays just how powerful Zeels is when IT doesn’t have to go out of its way to beat CMT (although it doesn’t ALWAYS win). Also, great performance Adam, congratulations, but I do notice that you yourself lost to a Zeels? Does this mean you didn’t know how to make the matchup positive either?

Also, not every CMT lost to Zeels…thought I’d throw that out there.

By no means I am saying that CMT players cant beat Zeels without techs. Im just saying that in the course of a long tournament, the bad matchup will show more in the top cut, when the CMTs will be eliminated early if the deck is not properly built for the Zeels matchup. I dont think anyone should take offense to that. This is just a card game and I am just stating the facts. Zeels pretty much HAVE to have a bad or slow start for CMT to have a good chance in that matchup without techs. This past weekend’s results definitely shows that and I dont think anyone can argue with that.

Wow pretty surprised CMT couldn’t pull off even 1 win somewhere and yet Durant could.

    1. SoulDew

If some CMT decks run more techs against Zekrom/Eelektrik it would have. Or if Tornadus didnt had lightning weakness.

        Cmv wrecks eels.

        1. TravisNunlist

          Obviously not.

I played CMT in Texas. Got paired vs 7 zeels in row. Only lost 2 games and both those games my lone basic got koed turn 2 or 3 :( Pretty easy matchup if you ko the eels since they cannot recover late game.

to put it in John Kettler’s words…
“In the battle of Eelektrik VS Celebi, Eelektrik won big time. Out of eight matches played between the two decks, Celebi variants nabbed a measly one win to Eelektrik’s seven. Is the matchup that bad? No, but my original hunch from pre-Regionals playtesting was confirmed: that the matchup was in favor of Zeel”

With all the debating going around. I’ll give my opinion.
    1. Go Pooka! Watched you play on here!
    2. CMT IS better than Zekeels BUT CMT is worse than THUNDURUS eels

    1. Maxibam

      /facepalm
All good Zekeels lists run Thundurus. There is no deck known as “Thundurus eels”

      1. Hunter

well me and me friends came up with a completely Thundurus focused list

I’m pretty sure the CMT Kyurem deck that got top 4 in Wisconsin was more like Celebi/corners, with terrakion, kyurem, reshiram (ex?), mewtwo and other basics running 4 prisms and celebi as an energy accelerator. Not 100% if its the same person tho.

    1. Germansk8er33

No, it was a CMT with Kyurem. Ran grass and water energy without the prism I beleive.

      1. John Roberts II

Yeah, it was CMT with only Kyurem with just grass, water, and DCE.

  5. John Roberts II

Yeah, it was CMT with only Kyurem with just grass water energies.

  6. Alex Humanick

Third place Pennsylvania was Zach Bowers and he didn’t run Tornadus. :)

  7. Atarashi

I was at texas and I am pretty sure the lilligant player was 3rd. He was 8-1 in swiss and the highest ranking player left in the top 4.

  8. Atokaskater1991

I’d say the cmt vs zekeel match up is pretty 50-50. I got top 16 at geogria regionals and got paired against a unstandard smergle version of the deck. I pretty much lost to ssu heads and energy wiffs. I feel like the standard zekeels is also a better match for cmt too. I went 7-1 in swiss losing to a zek cuz 1) I didn’t go first cuz I had the mewtwo donk in hand and 2) cuz besides that I had probably one of the worst hand ever all day of the event. Also it didn’t help the amount of people to be able to cut with cmt when my last 3 rounds were mirror in which only one of them was able to make cut after losing to me :/
