New Megalo Cannon Cards Revealed

Recently some new information from the Megalo Cannon set was unveiled in a commercial from Japan. In total, we have five new Pokémon: Octillery, Eelektrik, Porygon, Porygon2, and Escavalier. On top of that, we have three new ACE SPEC Trainers – G-Booster, G-Scope, and Master Ball. Pictures of the cards are below. Credit to PokéBeach for the scans and information.

Here are the translations for the cards.

Octillery – Water – HP90
Stage 1 (Team Plasma) – Evolves from Remoraid

[W] Sharpshooting: Choose one of your opponent’s Pokemon. This attack does 20 damage to that Pokemon.
[W][W] Bubblebeam: 40 damage. Flip a coin. If heads, the Defending Pokemon is now Paralyzed.

Weakness: Lightning (x2)

Porygon2 – Colorless – HP80
Stage 1 – Evolves from Porygon

[C][C] Destruction Beam: 30 damage. Flip a coin. If heads, discard 1 Energy card attached to the Defending Pokemon.

Weakness: Fighting (x2)

Escavalier – Metal – HP100
Stage 1 (Team Plasma) – Evolves from Karrablast

[M][C] Suppress: 40 damage. Does 20 damage to one of your opponent’s Benched Pokemon.
[M][C][C] Slash Down: 80 damage. During your next turn, this Pokemon can’t use Slash Down.

Weakness: Fire (x2)
Resistance: Psychic (-20)
Retreat: 3

G-Booster – Trainer
Item (Team Plasma)

Pokemon Tool: Each Pokemon can have only 1 Pokemon Tool attached to it at any time.

If this card is attached to Genesect-EX, it gains the following attack:

[G][G][C] G-Booster: 200 damage. Discard 2 Energy cards attached to this Pokemon. This attack is not affected by effects on the Defending Pokemon.

ACE SPEC: You can’t have more than 1 ACE SPEC card in your deck.

You can use any number of Item cards during your turn.

G-Scope – Trainer
Item (Team Plasma)

Pokemon Tool: Each Pokemon can have only 1 Pokemon Tool attached to it at any time.

If this card is attached to Genesect-EX, it gains the following attack:

[G][G][C] G-Scope: This attack does 100 damage to one of your opponent’s Benched Pokemon. (Don’t apply Weakness and Resistance for Benched Pokemon.)

ACE SPEC: You can’t have more than 1 ACE SPEC card in your deck.

You can use any number of Item cards during your turn.

Master Ball – Trainer
Item

Search your deck for a Pokemon card, reveal it, and put it into your hand. Shuffle your deck afterwards.

ACE SPEC: You can’t have more than 1 ACE SPEC card in your deck.

You can use any number of Item cards during your turn.

Unfortunately, none of the Pokémon look very interesting. In addition, Master Ball is a downright confusing card to print when things like Ultra Ball and Computer Search exist already. However, G-Boost and G-Scope seem like potentially interesting cards. Clearly the developers are trying to make Genesect EX the next big thing by giving it so many tools to work with. While G-Booster gives you a massive 200 damage attack for just three Energy, G-Scope allows you to hit the bench for 100 with no drawback. If you’re using a deck with Genesect EX, surely you would use one of these. Will it be enough to make the card powerful enough for competitive play? Time will tell!

I don’t think genesect need anything else its already the keldeo counter weve all wanted

    1. Piplup_isPimp

Actaully, keldeo has always been kept in check through mewtwo. Gensect was meant to be its own powerful card (G-boost), not a keldeo counter.

    2. Kyle Sucevich

Yeah, but now you can really put Keldeo in its place by doing 400 damage to it.

“This attack is not affected by effects on the Defending Pokemon.”

        “Any effects” also includes weakness

        1. Kyle Sucevich

Actually it would have to specify that Weakness is not applied. For example, look at Rayquaza’s Shred attack. It goes through all effects, but it still applies Weakness.

        2. Tristan Odums

It normally says “Weakness, Resistance and any other effect on the pokemon.” It does not from what I can make out. Weakness is applied. It’s not an effect at all.

Keldeo doesn’t need a counter. When genesect EX comes out Keldeo isn’t even that great…

I dont think anyone is really afraid of Keldeo except for decks relying on Landorus. But it gives the one shot ability to those who need to smack it quick. I know in my deck he is the best without ever attacking. Being able to rush in when a Pokemon is poisoned/asleep/paralyzed/confused/burned, then free retreat because of Darkrai makes him indispensable.

I quite like the new g booster and g scope, they are plasma cards that give a huge boost, and shadow triad helps with tool scrapper,we will have no idea if Genesect is even viable till we see all of megalo cannon though…I’m kinda wishing it has some form of grass excel, that would be cool.

I expected a master ball ace spec ever since the concept was introduced and they reprinted the old master ball as great ball. While the luxury ball effect was an obvious choice that came right to mind, I didn’t expect them to actually do it because of it’s almost worthless competitive viability compared to the other ace specs.
I actually thought they might make it like grab any Pokemon from your deck and play it directly onto your bench, even if it was a stage 1 or stage 2, but then I think that’s too strong.

If you use G-Scope with 4 Deoxys EX (Plasma Freeze) in play, would the damage be boosted to 140?

    1. Piplup_isPimp

No, sadly Doexys still has the drawback of plus power where the damage is added on to anything hitting the active, but the ability doesn’t apply to your opponents active or benched pokemon if you attack the bench.

Its like genosect ex is the new darkrai ex

    1. Piplup_isPimp

Not yet it isn’t. Darkrai didn’t do 200 damage for a GGC from an ace spec card (which thanks to team plasma cards+shadow triad and skyla is always available when not prized) and darkrai couldn’t one-shot any popular cards (keldeo) while getting to do 20 to the bench. If Genesect has its energy acceleration come from an item card, mabye. However, its more likely it will come from a stage two, which would then make that deck more similar to keldeo than anything else, though better.
