With Worlds over with and the birth of the new tournament season, it’s as good a time as ever to start preparing for the new modified format. Today I am starting with a deck that lost little with rotation: Plasma. However, with the release of Plasma Blast, the deck gains some possible interesting additions. One of these cards, Silver Bangle, is something I have been eager to try. In order to knock out a lot of the EX Pokémon in the format with one attack, Hypnotoxic Laser and Virbank City Gym are needed for the extra 30 damage. With Silver Bangle you can do the same 30 damage and save space in your deck! Let’s check out a sample list.
|Pokémon (13)||Trainers (33)||Energy (14)|
|4 Deoxys EX||4 Professor Juniper||4 Blend WLFM|
|3 Kyurem||4 N||4 Prism|
|2 Thundurus EX||3 Colress||4 Plasma|
|2 Keldeo EX||2 Skyla||2 Double Colorless|
|1 Absol||4 Colress Machine|
|1 Lugia EX||4 Pokémon Catcher|
|3 Float Stone|
|3 Silver Bangle|
|2 Tool Scrapper|
|2 Ultra Ball|
|1 Team Plasma Ball|
|1 Computer Search|
Blizzard Burn does 120 base damage. With Silver Bangle it does 150 against EX Pokemon. With 2 or 3 Deoxys EX on your bench, you can one-hit-KO any EX Pokémon in the metagame. Against non-EX Pokémon, with Deoxys on the field, you will likely be able to KO any non-EX Pokémon as well.
Without Hypnotoxic Laser, your deck loses much of its early game aggression against non-EX Pokémon and reduces the value of turns where you attack with your EX Pokémon. Turns where you attack with Kyurem and Absol are stronger, as Virbank and HTL are harder to get than a single Silver Bangle. You also lose the ability to lock your opponent for a turn by keeping them asleep with HTL. Without HTL and Virbank, and playing 3 Bangle, you open up spots in your deck by 3 or 4. With Virizion EX out now, you may find HTL is useless against decks with Virizion in them.
Lugia is equally as powerful as Kyurem, has more HP, uses a Colorless attack, and takes an extra prize when it attacks. Lugia EX also does not benefit from HTL, as prizes taken from poison do not yield an extra prize card. Double Colorless Energy powers up Lugia quicker, can be Raiden Knuckled (Thundurus EX) onto Lugia, and allows Deoxys EX and Keldeo EX to retreat without Float Stone.
Tool Scrapper is a necessary two of in Plasma decks now. With the release of Silver Mirror (prevents damage done by Team Plasma Pokemon) you don’t want to be staring down a field of Silver Mirrors with your single Tool Scrapper in the discard.
More Colress Machine means more Energy acceleration, more attacks turn one, and more Lugia EX attacks out of nowhere. With the newfound space in the deck because of Silver Bangle, the 4th Machine is much easier to fit.
Overall, the deck gains a small amount of consistency and loses power in some situations and gains power in others.
Check the deck out for yourself and thanks for the read!
