More Than I Bangled For (Plasma Decklist)

With Worlds over with and the birth of the new tournament season, it’s as good a time as ever to start preparing for the new modified format. Today I am starting with a deck that lost little with rotation: Plasma. However, with the release of Plasma Blast, the deck gains some possible interesting additions. One of these cards, Silver Bangle, is something I have been eager to try. In order to knock out a lot of the EX Pokémon in the format with one attack, Hypnotoxic Laser and Virbank City Gym are needed for the extra 30 damage. With Silver Bangle you can do the same 30 damage and save space in your deck! Let’s check out a sample list.

Pokémon (13) Trainers (33) Energy (14)
4 Deoxys EX 4 Professor Juniper 4 Blend WLFM
3 Kyurem 4 N 4 Prism
2 Thundurus EX 3 Colress 4 Plasma
2 Keldeo EX 2 Skyla 2 Double Colorless
1 Absol 4 Colress Machine
1 Lugia EX 4 Pokémon Catcher
3 Float Stone
3 Silver Bangle
2 Tool Scrapper
2 Ultra Ball
1 Team Plasma Ball
1 Computer Search

Silver Bangle

88-silver-bangle

Blizzard Burn does 120 base damage. With Silver Bangle it does 150 against EX Pokemon. With 2 or 3 Deoxys EX on your bench, you can one-hit-KO any EX Pokémon in the metagame. Against non-EX Pokémon, with Deoxys on the field, you will likely be able to KO any non-EX Pokémon as well.

No Hypnotoxic Laser

Without Hypnotoxic Laser, your deck loses much of its early game aggression against non-EX Pokémon and reduces the value of turns where you attack with your EX Pokémon. Turns where you attack with Kyurem and Absol are stronger, as Virbank and HTL are harder to get than a single Silver Bangle. You also lose the ability to lock your opponent for a turn by keeping them asleep with HTL. Without HTL and Virbank, and playing 3 Bangle, you open up spots in your deck by 3 or 4. With Virizion EX out now, you may find HTL is useless against decks with Virizion in them.

Lugia EX and Double Colorless Energy

108-lugia-ex

Lugia is equally as powerful as Kyurem, has more HP, uses a Colorless attack, and takes an extra prize when it attacks. Lugia EX also does not benefit from HTL, as prizes taken from poison do not yield an extra prize card. Double Colorless Energy powers up Lugia quicker, can be Raiden Knuckled (Thundurus EX) onto Lugia, and allows Deoxys EX and Keldeo EX to retreat without Float Stone.

2 Tool Scrapper

Tool Scrapper is a necessary two of in Plasma decks now. With the release of Silver Mirror (prevents damage done by Team Plasma Pokemon) you don’t want to be staring down a field of Silver Mirrors with your single Tool Scrapper in the discard.

4th Colress Machine

119-colress-machine

More Colress Machine means more Energy acceleration, more attacks turn one, and more Lugia EX attacks out of nowhere. With the newfound space in the deck because of Silver Bangle, the 4th Machine is much easier to fit.

1 Team Plasma Ball

Ultra Ball is mainly better because of discard and Keldeo EX search, but sometimes when you want to Skyla for Ultra Ball you really can’t afford the discard. Skyla for Plasma Ball works wonders here.

Overall, the deck gains a small amount of consistency and loses power in some situations and gains power in others.

Check the deck out for yourself and thanks for the read!

How does lugia allow deoxys and keldeo retreat without float stone ?

    1. nitemare

Nevermind.. misread. Double colorless not lugia ex.

      1. bob

        It’s OK

  2. Austin Reed

Lugia isn’t as powerful as Kyurem, only because it can’t have Bangle attached.

Hey if you ever want to test plasma decks online my PTCGO gamer tag is tylerkb.

what about against zebstrika mirror? you cant use tool scrapper if they disconnect?

    1. Kyle Sucevich

Keldeo EX would have to be your attacker against that.

      1. Twan

Everyone is talking about zebra mirror and dragonite mirror. But that only works vs plasma and not vs the other decks so i don’t think it will se THAT much play.

Btw: 2 keldeo and no switches is too much with the popularity of tool scrapper.

What about against a sigilyph latias ex victini ex deck. Sure take out victini but what next

    1. Zurthon

It’ll be very rare that you will see a deck like that. Also kyurem can take out latias ex. I don’t see the problem.

for some reason, i love champion’s festival in this deck. the healing power is really good as you usually have a full bench.

  7. Isaiah

    I think you’re making a mistake not playing Switches…

It have been bugging me for a while, but what is the function of Keldeo in this deck?

    1. Kyle Sucevich

Kyurem cannot attack the turn after using Blizzard Burn, but you can get around that by using Keldeo EX’s Rush In and then retreating back to the bench (using a Float Stone to give it a free retreat cost).

      1. Cresando

Oh i see. It seems like more people start to use silver bangle rather than Hypnotoxic Lasers/Virbank combo for this build. I wonder if the combo isn’t relevant anymore. What do you think?

        1. F0NTAINE

PF Kyurem with 2 Deoxys on the bench will already 1 shot all non-EX except, what, Wailord? PF Kyurem with 2 Deoxys and bangle will one shot all EX with 170 health, with 3 Deoxys it will one shot all EX except Virizion EX. Bangle is more reliable and reusable, especially with Darkrai/Hydreigon and VirGen becoming immune to poison damage. It’s still very strong, especially in decks that have Garbodor.

  9. Who am I?

Could you put a Glaceon and Eevee in there. you can ultra ball for eevee and glaceon’s ability reduces your team plasma’s retreat cost by two. This might work for someone like me who doesn’t have a lot of cards to work with.

I would actually play Plasma Glaceon in this deck, its Ability allows for a 2 colorless less retreat cost on all Plasma Pokemon, and it would work well with the Keldeo Rush-In and then retreat trick for Kyruem, as it gives Keldeo a free retreat cost. Just a thought, I play Glaceon in my Plasma deck, so yeah.
