Welcome back for PokéPuzzle #3! We had a great response for Puzzle #2, so thanks to everyone that responded with answers. Congrats to Mekk Kah for being the lucky winner of a Tropical Beach on PTCGO. If you are interested in the answers to last week’s puzzle, the solutions are listed after this week’s puzzle. Yet again, the prize for the winner will be one Tropical Beach promo on PTCGO.
I will reprint the same disclaimer I had last week regarding the Beach: This means one copy of the card, NOT one code which is worth four copies. Unfortunately I don’t have an infinite supply of prizes, so I have to make what I do have last as long as possible. As I will be trading one copy of the card to the winner through PTCGO, all entrants will need to have a working PTCGO account with at least one tradable card. The winner will be randomly chosen from the correct entries received through 9/6/13 and revealed to the masses in the next PokéPuzzle.
Active Pokemon: Mew Ex – Dragons Exalted (40 damage, not affected by any special conditions, two Lightning Energy attached, has just used the attack Disconnect)
Benched Pokemon: Zebstrika – Next Destinies (80 damage, two Lightning Energy attached)
Deck: 6 Cards
Hand: 8 Cards
Active Pokemon: Ditto (0 damage, not affected by any special conditions, in play for more than one turn)
Benched Pokemon: 2 Ditto (All in play for more than one turn, 0 damage), 1 Keldeo EX (two Water Energy attached)
Deck: 8 Cards (This INCLUDES the card you will be drawing for your turn which is given below)
Hand: 0 Cards
The Goal: To win before your opponent’s next turn ends.
The Rules: We begin action at the start of your current turn. You will be drawing a Professor Juniper as your one draw for the turn, which means you will be left with seven cards in your deck. Those seven cards can be any combination of currently legal modified (Next Destinies on) cards you think can earn you the victory, except those cards which you are explicitly not playing listed below. All normal rules of the Pokémon TCG apply (one Energy per turn, one Supporter per turn, etc.), and you must win before your opponent’s next turn ends. That means that an unusual win condition that occurs before the end of your opponent’s next turn such as Poison damage, decking, or anything else I might have forgotten, counts as a valid solution.
Assume all coin flips result in tails.
Please remember to take into account that your opponent has just used Disconnect and you cannot play any Item cards. I repeat, YOU CANNOT PLAY ANY ITEM cards on your turn.
Cards you are NOT playing in your deck: Ninetales – Dragons Exalted, Kingdra – Plasma Freeze, Flareon – Plasma Freeze, Rotom – Plasma Storm, Landorus EX – Boundaries Crossed, Virbank City Gym – Plasma Storm
Please send all solutions to firstname.lastname@example.org and use a list format for your answer. For this puzzle everyone’s first step will be the same:
1. Draw a Professor Juniper.
Additionally, please list the eight cards you will be using as your deck. For this puzzle everyone’s first card will be the same:
1. Professor Juniper
The order you list the cards is irrelevant when submitting your answer. I believe there is only one answer this week, but is impossible for me to check every card combination when I come up with a puzzle.
Feel free to comment on the puzzle in the comments section but please do not post any potential answers down there. I will be posting a hint to my Twitter page @DrewHolton sometime Thursday for everyone that has not figured it out by then. I actually forgot to post a hint for puzzle two, so sorry to anyone that was expecting a hint. Good luck everyone and have fun!
Puzzle was edited on September 3, 2013 at 7:47 ET to ban additional cards.
Solutions to PokePuzzle #2:
There were three seven card combinations that lead to a victory over Pooka in last week’s puzzle:
#1. Bicycle, Aggron, Rare Candy, Aron, Hoothoot, basic energy, virtually any draw card (Bicycle, Juniper, Cheren, etc)
Bicycle into Aggron, Rare Candy, Aron and the draw card. Transform a benched Ditto into Aron. Rare Candy into Aggron and use Toppling Wind to discard Pooka’s deck down to one card. Use the draw card to draw into Hoothoot and the energy. Transform the active Ditto into Hoothoot and use Dual Draw. Kyle cannot draw a card at the start of his turn and loses.
#2. Bicycle, Aggron, Rare Candy, Aron, Scoop Up Cyclone, Rare Candy, virtually any draw card (Bicycle, Juniper, Cheren, etc)
Bicycle into Aggron, Rare Candy, Aron and the draw card. Transform a Ditto into Aron. Rare Candy into Aggron and use Toppling Wind to discard Pooka’s deck down to one card. Use the draw card to draw into Scoop Up Cyclone and the Rare Candy. Scoop Up Cyclone the Aggron and Transform a Ditto into Aron again. Rare Candy back into Aggron and deck Pooka with another Toppling Wind.
#3. Bicycle, Salamence, Rare Candy, Bagon, N, Hoothoot, basic energy
Bicycle into Bagon, Rare Candy, Salamence and N. Transform a benched Ditto into Bagon. Rare Candy into Salamence and use Scornful Storm to make Kyle discard his hand to four. Use N to force Pooka to draw two more cards from his deck, and also cause yourself to draw the Hoothoot and energy. Transform the active Ditto into Hoothoot and use Dual Draw. Kyle cannot draw a card at the start of his turn and loses.
