This is so much fun! It can give you some clunky hands, and I’d venture Yveltal is going to give it quite a lot of trouble, but it seems to be rather competitive and it’s refreshing to have a deck with not a lot of supporters based draw.

Between this and Ryan Sabelhaus’s Shiftry/Raichu/Milotic deck I’m having a lot of fun these days.
Cheers for the video (I can’t stop saying CHAAARIZARD!).

Kyle since this is a speed Charizard deck I think you should consider dropping the 1-1 Kangaskhan line. Instead insert two M Charizard fire-type just for the Pyroar match. In most cases you won’t need to mega evolve. I think 2 of those would flow a little better than a 1-1 line that might get prized in some way.

I also question if Jirachi is really necessary. You play 10 basic pokemon. So theres a 1/10 chance to start with it. And that can almost kill your entire quick start or set up. Another Reshiram would be optimal here. Its got a lot of synergy with blacksmith too.

Also, I think any fire deck utilizing flame torch needs least 10 fire energy to function well. Yeah I know you play those 4 professor’s letters, but I would rather drop two of those and add in 2 more fire energies.

Keep hammering out that list though! This was fun to watch. My initial thoughts of the new format with FLF is that there are a lot more diversity in decks now and the game is becoming better since all the big basic speed decks that overwhelm you now have to tech for Pyroar. I hope to see decks like this used in competitive play.

Mega Charizard EX is pretty weak because it hurts itself (no space for Protection Cube) and walks right into Mewtwo EX’s X-Ball (which most Pyroar decks will be playing). I don’t think I’d ever use that as an answer to Pyroar. Mega Kangaskhan EX has the benefits of 10 extra HP, not hurting itself, and taking only three Energy to attack, making it more difficult to KO.

As for the other suggestions, I’d say this is one of those cases where you need to try it before assuming it doesn’t work. The engine for the deck may look strange, but that doesn’t make it incorrect. For example, Jirachi EX is a staple in here, and I actually would consider playing two or three. Being able to search for a Blacksmith makes the deck run smoother. The utility it provides far outweighs the negative aspect if you happen to start with it.

The questions that I have then is:

What happens if one of your 1-1 line of Kangaskhan is prized and you’re playing Pyroar? Just take the auto-loss?

Also, what about the presence of Lysandre in the format now? Doesn’t that weigh on your mind since that can be an easy 2 prizes by dragging up Jirachi? Many people (including myself) seem to be running at least 1-2 in every deck. And a 90 hp EX pokemon that now has a bad weakness is just serving up 2 prizes for your opponent.

If you’re extremely scared of Pyroar, you can commit more spots to countering it. Personally I don’t know how viable or popular it will be, so I won’t bother trying too hard to beat it yet. At this point, yes, I will accept losing to Pyroar if a piece of the Kangaskhan line is prized. Even at a tournament I might take this risk because the rounds are best-of-three. The odds of one of them being prized two of the three games are pretty low.

The way I see it, if someone is using a Lysandre to go after Jirachi EX instead of taking down my Charizard EX, I don’t mind. Unless they’re taking the final two prizes, they’re doing me a favor by not going after my attacker. The biggest weakness of this deck is running out of steam, so it’s a positive any time Charizard lives a turn.

  5. DarkZard4u

Hey Pooka, could you run a silver bangle or two in place of one or two muscle bands to hit for that 180 HP on things like Darkrai when you need to?

    1. Kyle Sucevich

Silver Bangle doesn’t work when attached to Pokémon-EX.

      1. DarkZard4u

        Right, thanks. Too bad.

  6. Frenchdavid50

I don’t run Druddigon, and instead ShreadQuaza and 4 lightning to deal with Dragons and Pyroar.

  7. thflame

Noob question, how do you use pyroar without litleo?

      1. Eric Demers

You probably know by now, but when we say 3-3 Pyroar, it means 3 Litleo and 3 Pyroar; it’s the whole evolution line.

Hi Kyle, do you think is good to add in 1x landorus ex and 2x fighting energy. landorus ex can hammerhead for 30 damage and follow up with charizard ex Combustion Blast for 120 damage.

    1. Ken

      sorry is 150 damage.

      1. James

Muscle Band does the job but even better, you don’t have to waste a turn using Hammerhead. Just OHKO 170 HP EX’s with Combustion Blast.

  9. thedevilscry

I like this deck alot it. its strong against most decks that i’ve come up against but I did have some trouble against safeguard pokemon especially a player who was running multiple suicune in a keldeo blastoise deck. any suggestions to counter that?

  10. brocon

    I made a better one
