Founded in June 2011, The Top Cut is a group consisting of four players – Drew Holton, Josue “Crimz” Rojano, Kyle “Pooka” Sucevich, and Michael Pramawat – dedicated to promoting the growth of the Pokémon Trading Card Game. Having played for over 10 years each, all of us have a passion and love for the game we grew up with. Unfortunately, there is a major lack of online coverage when it comes to Pokémon; we are looking to change this.
Beginning with the 2011 US National Championship, The Top Cut plans to provide more Pokémon event coverage than ever before. What exactly will we be doing? For starters, we plan on doing real-time updates from the tournament via Twitter (@topcutpokemon). Mostly this will involve standings and general comments about the event, including pictures when possible. Then, we will have interviews with top players, players who are doing well in the tournament, and many others. Finally, at the end of each day we will have a recap of the day’s events along with pictures. Ultimately, we want anyone who is not at an event to be able to experience it and know exactly what is happening.
In addition to coverage, we are looking to provide video content in other forms. For example, we are streaming a weekly talk show where the four of us plus a guest discuss current events in the Pokémon TCG community and take questions from the audience. Sporadically we will stream playtesting sessions and games with commentary as well. After we finish streaming for the night, all the videos get uploaded to Blip and YouTube, so they are available to watch at any time.
Currently the production value is not as high as it could be, but we are working very hard to improve that. As always, we are open to any and all feedback; we are new to this, so we want to know how you think we could improve. Our goal in the end is to make the Pokémon TCG bigger, better, and more accessible to everyone, but we cannot do it without your help!
